The Macallan Harmony Collection Intense Arabica 2022 Single Malt Whisky 700ml

The Harmony Collection is a series launched by The Macallan to celebrates the delicious flavours that we all look for in a great malt whisky.

Cacao, the first in the series, was released last year and saluted the indulgent chocolate notes so many of us love. It was a an instant sell out with The Macallan collectors eagerly snapping them up.

This year’s edition, Arabica, is a tribute to Ethiopia as the birthplace of that magical bean and highlights the coffee flavours enjoyed the world over either in a morning brew or more preferably, an evening dram.

The Macallan Chief Whisky Maker, Steve Bremner wanted to create an expression that would pair perfectly with an espresso, so he worked with a group of caffeinated experts including Ethiopian grower Kenean Asefa Dukamo, Scottish roaster Lisa Lawson and acclaimed American barista Andrea Allen. Of the similarities between the two he said:

"There are many parallels between the approach to creating incomparable whisky and coffee. Each requires unique skills and craftsmanship to achieve depth and complexity of taste and both worlds aim to deliver an extraordinary consumption experience.”

Bottled at 44% ABV, Harmony Intense Arabica is crema to the eye. The nose brings Tiramisu, cappuccino, gingerbread, raisins, almonds, sweet oak, vanilla. On the palate, espresso , dark chocolate, blackberry, vanilla and Brazil nut with the raisins, tiramisu and sweet oak continuing. The finish is long with dark roasted coffee balanced with sherry cask sweetness.
