Red wine blends allow the winemaker to take the best grapes they can find and blend them into wine based on their own unique take. In Australia, the most common red wine varieties used in blends are Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, but they’ll occasionally use Merlot and other varieties. The wines can differ from year to year as the exact blends are adjusted based on what grapes are available and what the winemaker is trying to achieve. The reasoning behind producing a red wine blend is to make use of the benefits of traditional grape varieties and adding in other flavours to build on the experience that the wine drinker can have. The idea is to take something that people may be familiar with and build on it so you get a new and interesting drinking experience.
You can find some excellent examples of red wine blends at the BoozeBud online store. We’d recommend looking at the exceptional offerings from 19 Crimes, Campo Viejo, and Fifth Leg. Red wines are some of the most flavourful and intense wines you’ll find, and they’ll match quite well with many grilled meats (except for some delicate seafood), and rich tomato based pasta dishes. If you need to order more than wine for your next event or celebration, then you can rely on BoozeBud to supply you with all the beer, brandy, gin, liqueurs, rum, vodka, and whiskey that you need.
Do you chill red wine blends?
In the past, it was considered appropriate to serve red wine blends at room temperature, and let them breathe after opening for about an hour before serving. In recent years it has been shown that this is not only a bad way to serve red wine blends but can actually affect the flavour of the wine. For the best results, all red wines should be served slightly chilled, with the lighter reds (such as Pinot Noir) being colder. As a red wine blend, you should be serving it at around 12oC-16oC.
If you don't have a wine cellar, or a suitable wine cooler refrigerator, you can use your regular kitchen fridge to get it to temperature. All you need is a timer and some patience. Place the wine in the fridge for 45-60 minutes depending on how deep in colour the red wine is, then open it up and let it rest for about ten minutes before serving. To keep the bottle at the right temperature, it is recommended to use an ice bucket between pours, especially if it is a particularly warm day.
Are red wine blends healthy?
Red wines in general are much healthier than white wines. While it can be difficult to determine the exact makeup of red wine blends, usually these are not as deep and rich as what you’ll find in a Shiraz, or Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s the lighter red wines that are considered to be the healthiest of all wines, so if you’re looking for that perfect drop to keep you trim, then going for either a red blended wine, or something softer like a Pinot Noir, or a Rose, will be your best option. Ideally, you want to avoid sweet wines such as Moscato and some Rieslings.

As we are operating in Australia, it is a requirement that we follow the current Australian Liquor laws. The main part of these is that we cannot supply liquor, or liquor products, to anyone under the age of eighteen (18). For this reason, we cannot leave any packages unattended at an address. Therefore if no one is available at the time of delivery, all parcels must be sent to a local post office point and they can be collected at a later date. If you feel that you cannot be home, you can arrange to have it taken directly to the local post office where it’ll be waiting for you when you're next available.
